MapD Rebrands to OmniSci

Company Expands Vision to Transform Big Data Analytics and Data Science by Eliminating the Technical Barriers to Achieving a Zero-Latency Analytics Experience.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (September 27, 2018) -- MapD, the Extreme Analytics™ platform provider, today announced it has changed its name to OmniSci, a name inspired by the idea of continuously expanding the boundary of insights and knowledge.

OmniSci’s technical mission is to allow analysts and data scientists to interactively query and visualize data at scale, thereby enabling people to explore very large datasets at the speed of thought. “We are entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity to leverage the massive amounts of data at our fingertips to make better and faster decisions,” stated Todd Mostak, CEO and Co-founder of OmniSci. “Our goal is to empower data-driven pioneers through a new class of analytics, with unprecedented levels of performance. Our new name, OmniSci, represents our commitment to positively impact our customers, and society around us, through the power of analytics and data science.”

Founded in 2013 and commercially launched in 2016, OmniSci is the product of groundbreaking research at Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). This research proved that the massive parallel computing power of GPUs could be applied to general big data analytics, and coincided with the dramatic adoption rate of GPU’s in private and public data centers in recent years.

Today, OmniSci’s extreme analytics platform, able to query billions of rows of data in milliseconds, is in daily use by Global 2000 companies and U.S. government agencies. One customer reported reducing the response time on a complex query of tens of billions of records from 18 hours to 100 milliseconds. The platform, available in cloud, enterprise, and open source versions, combines unmatched performance and ease-of-use. Many users are able to be up and running on the solution in hours, and can also start using OmniSci’s Cloud offering in less than a minute.

“OmniSci’s mission statement is to make analytics instant, powerful and effortless for everyone”, added Mostak. “This milestone to rebrand the company marks the beginning of a new chapter in this mission, as we continue to expand the company and accelerate innovation for our customers and users.”
