Happy New Year, everyone! We hope you all had a happy and healthy holiday season.

Every new year offers the chance to change, improve oneself, and build upon past successes. This year is no different, and neither is HEAVY.AI, which is why we're very proud to announce HEAVY.AI Version 5.10.

The 5.10 release offers a fantastic collection of database and front-end features and fixes issues across each of HEAVY.AI's primary components.

We handpicked three of those features to shine the spotlight on today (improved Table Chart exports, extensive support for vector GIS files, and row-level security). Still, if you're anything like me, you'll also want the detailed release notes, which you can find here

Improved Table Chart Export

We recently went 1-on-1 with a group of users and partners to understand how they utilize our technology and received feedback on improvements they'd like to see. Many of the folks we spoke to want to access all the data in a Table Chart and export it to common business tools like Excel.

The freedom to export data from Table Charts like this makes a ton of sense. You've done the interactive, visual analysis of your big datasets. You've zoomed in on the map, selected a slice of time, and filtered out the noise. The table chart in your dashboard contains all that analytical goodness in the form of a result set.

Previously, we allowed you to export a small portion of that data. Now you'll be able to export 1,000,000 rows from your Table Chart to CSV format and bring that result set wherever you'd like.

Extensive Support for Vector GIS Files

For years, we've supported Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) compliant data formats like shapefiles, GeoJSON, Keyhole Markup Language (KML), and Well-Known Text. For many projects, that was sufficient, but we understand there are industries and use cases that rely on a broader set of formats to accomplish their work.

HEAVY.AI Version 5.10 introduces support for 100+ formats backed by the current GDAL release and a more comprehensive set of ST_TRANSFORM SRIDs supported by geos/proj4 library, which;

  • improves HEAVY.AI's overall interoperability
  • hardens HEAVY.AI's commitment to the open geospatial community
  • unlocks new use cases
  • limits data preparation
  • and enhances usability
v5.10 supports 100+ formats backed by the current GDAL release

Row-Level Security (RLS)

As an administrator, you can use Row-level security (RLS) to apply security filtering to queries executed by a user or with a role using the new policy commands CREATE POLICY, SHOW POLICIES, and DROP POLICY.

All queries on the specified table for the user or role are automatically filtered to include only rows where the column contains any values from the VALUES clause. This form of filtering works similarly to how a WHERE column = value clause appended to every query or subquery on the table would work.
