Today, we are excited to launch our new positioning for MapD - the Extreme Analytics Platform™, along with a brand new website. This has been a fun, challenging and detailed project. I am very grateful to the MapD marketing team for doing such a tremendous job.

Removing the Limits in Big Data Analytics

“Extreme Analytics” goes far beyond messaging. It captures our vision as an organization - to be a global software vendor that redefines the limits of scale and speed in big data analytics. Because mainstream analytics tools can’t handle big data, they are preventing access to tremendous new value. There are hundreds of big data use cases that are not presently benefitting from timely analytics. Opening this data up to analytics has major benefits to our customers:

  1. They can find entirely new insights they never could before. For example, one customer significantly altered their advertising spending mix, improving returns, after making new discoveries with MapD.
  2. Increasing the frequency and speed of decision-making, e.g. from monthly to daily or from weekly to hourly. A major telecommunications company is now analyzing up to 40 billion rows of data in near real time, as high-velocity data streams in from its cell phone towers. Our customer can pinpoint network anomalies as they occur, in order to take immediate action. This level of high-frequency decision-making was impossible before MapD.
  3. Reducing IT costs by eliminating the need to pre-aggregate and downsample data, simplifying data ingest, and scaling back on ever-expanding hardware footprints.
  4. Transforming how our users do their work. Now they can do analysis and explore data at the speed of thought, increasing their productivity and job satisfaction.

Many Use Cases, One Platform

As a ‘platform,’ MapD is being deployed for a wide array of use cases, many that have never been addressed before. Generally, the common characteristics are: (1) a very large data set (millions, up to many billions, of rows); (2) frequent querying; and (3) a need for managers, big data analysts or data scientists to interact with the data at the speed of thought. For these users, MapD brings the data to life right before their eyes.

To help understand what’s possible with MapD, we’ve created a number of featured use cases examples at our website. The use cases fall into one of these top 3 categories: Operational analytics; Geospatial analytics; and Data Science.

MapD’s Momentum

MapD entered the market about 18 months ago. We’ve been gaining velocity ever since.

Today over a hundred businesses and government agencies are using MapD. Tens of thousands of analytics practitioners, developers, and data architects have joined our rapidly growing community.

In my career, I’ve never seen such passion for a technology. People from all parts of the globe are excitedly engaging with us and other MapD community members. Meetups are springing up all over the US and Europe. We even recently discovered a regular meetup about MapD in Tokyo. Such is the special nature and power of open source technology.

While we are excited about our momentum to date, we know we are still in the early stages of our journey. We are deeply committed to the road ahead, as we pursue our vision for Extreme Analytics with our partners, community, and customers.
